Citizen Soldier

December 13 marked the 373rd anniversary of the National Guard, which traces its lineage back to the Puritan militia formed in 1636.  Yesterday afternoon the Guard celebrated its birthday in an elaborate bash at the LVCC (Letort View Community Center) at Carlisle Barracks.  Lots of pomp, circumstance, mercifully brief speeches,  and lots of free souvenirs (shirts, etc.), beer, wine and hors d’oeuvres.  Plus a showing of this video, which is really kinda cool:

Ah the poor, underappreciated National Guard. Long may its four-star generals rule the Joint Chiefs and NORTHCOM. It’s good to have a fifth service join the other four, as the Guard flexes its political muscles to make sure that it gets its “due.”

    I’ll pass on the cake.
